RETSCH / ULTRA CENTRIFUGAL MILL

ZM 300.
Fine grinding. Controlled preparation.

High-speed laboratory preparation for soft, medium-hard, brittle and fibrous samples. Match the rotor, ring sieve and collection system to the analysis, with cassette-temperature monitoring to help develop repeatable methods.

THE MODEL IN FOCUS

Fine analytical preparation and temperature-sensitive sample methods.

Monitor the process

The temperature sensor reads the cassette lid near the ring sieve. Use the displayed value to assess heat buildup and refine speed and feeding.

Choose the grinding action

Six-, twelve- and twenty-four-tooth rotors address different sample behaviors. Ring sieves span 0.08–10 mm openings.

Separate sample and drive

Removable cassette components simplify recovery and cleaning. Standard and volume cassettes offer useful sample volumes of 300 and 600 mL.

Extend collection

Discuss a DR 100 feeder, cyclone collection and supported cold-grinding arrangements for larger or heat-sensitive sample workflows.

*Published feed limits, fineness and throughput depend on the material, sieve, speed and configuration. Sieve aperture is not the final particle size, and maximum throughput and finest output are not simultaneous guarantees.

FUNCTIONAL PRINCIPLE

How ZM 300
works.

Feed enters the toothed rotor, is accelerated outward and pre-ground by impact. Fine grinding then takes place between the rotor and fixed ring sieve. The sample exits to the surrounding cassette or a configured cyclone collection system.

  • Match sample behavior and feed dimensions
  • Choose the actual sieve, speed and contact materials
  • Validate the output with a representative trial

the result.

Rotors & ring sieves

Choose tooth count, sieve aperture and tool material around the sample. Distance sieves reduce the shearing contribution and frictional heat. Sieve opening is not identical to the final particle size.

Collection & automated feeding

The standard cassette has 900 mL nominal capacity but 300 mL useful sample volume; the larger cassette has 1,200 mL nominal and 600 mL useful volume. Cyclone vessel capacities and useful volumes also differ. Review DR 100 feeding and the complete collection setup.

Cold grinding & contamination control

Supported methods include external sample embrittlement or an appropriate dry-ice workflow. Discuss the operating procedure, ventilation and compatible components. Stainless, titanium and coated tool choices influence wear and contamination; none eliminates every source of contamination.
