TEMPERATURE AS A PROCESS VARIABLE

MM 500 control.
Temperature, considered.

Combine high-energy dry, wet or cryogenic grinding with monitored heating and cooling. Thermal plates transfer heat to or from the jars, helping tailor preparation to temperature-sensitive samples and controlled research methods.

THE MODEL IN FOCUS

Monitored heating, cooling & temperature-sensitive methods

Heat or cool the jars

Thermal plates provide a path for heat transfer while milling. Their operating range extends from −100 to +100 °C, depending on the complete setup.

Monitor the process

The display tracks thermal-plate temperature. Optional GrindControl measures temperature and pressure inside a compatible jar.

Two larger sample positions

Use jars up to 125 ml nominal volume, with useful sample quantities up to 45 ml each and frequencies up to 30 Hz.

MM 500 control operating principle

HOW IT WORKS

Oscillation.
Impact. Mixing.

Grinding jars oscillate in a horizontal position. The balls’ inertia drives them into the sample at the rounded jar ends. Impact and friction reduce the material while the motion mixes it.

Match ball size, number, jar material, filling level, frequency and time to the sample. Use smaller beads for compatible bead-beating methods; use a validated liquid and dispersion method for wet grinding.

Feed size, final fineness and useful sample quantity depend on the material, tools and operating conditions. Jar volume is not the sample filling volume. The finest result and largest feed or batch are not simultaneous guarantees.

MM 500 control application configuration

METHOD & CONFIGURATION

Choose the temperature setup with the method.

The mill requires an external tempering device for temperature regulation. Use liquid nitrogen with cryoPad for controlled low-temperature operation, or a compatible circulating thermal fluid for heating and cooling. The displayed thermal-plate temperature is not a direct measurement of sample temperature.

  • Thermal-plate range: −100 to +100 °C depending on configuration
  • LN₂ with cryoPad: −100 to 0 °C selectable setpoints
  • Frequency range: 3–30 Hz; two grinding stations

BUILD THE RIGHT SETUP

The tools make the method.

Select jars, balls and supporting accessories around your material and analysis. Confirm the complete configuration and what is included in the quotation.

cryoPad & nitrogen supply

cryoPad & nitrogen supply

Liquid-nitrogen operation requires the optional cryoPad and a suitable nitrogen supply. It regulates the thermal plates from −100 to 0 °C in 10-degree setpoint steps.

External thermal-fluid supply

External thermal-fluid supply

Connect a compatible chiller, cryostat or other specified tempering source for heating or cooling. Achievable conditions depend on the fluid, source and grinding heat load.

Jars & application tools

Jars & application tools

Compatible jar materials include hardened steel, stainless steel, tungsten carbide and zirconium oxide. Ask about aeration lids, GrindControl, multi-cavity jars and vial adapters.
